![]() ![]() DHD Architecture & Design is a multidisciplinary firm that offers services in Architecture, Interior Design and Product Design.
The philosophy throughout all design projects is that simplicity is the most important element for success. A project should be timeless, elegant and functional. The juxtaposition between modern and traditional is carefully considered.
DHD Architecture & Design believes in creating continuity between the outdoor environment, the building structure, the indoor spaces and objects within. Design should create a seamless blend and subtle sensory experience as one moves throughout various spaces. Structures should respond to the site and utilize views, wind and light to its best advantage. Building mechanics can often include solar, geothermal or passive heating and cooling. Projects can be full service from design, through construction and also include interiors. The firm has experience with primary and vacation residences in the city, country, mountains and on the coast. Commissions can extend into product design as well. The firm was founded in 2000 by Debra Harrington Dillon, AIA, LEED AP. Debra studied Architecture at William Smith College and Columbia University and has a Masters degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia as well. She also studied Conservation and Restoration in Paris. She is a licensed architect in New York and New Jersey, a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a LEED accredited professional from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Prior to founding DHD Architecture & Design, Debra worked at the New York firms of Beyer Blinder Belle and Ehrenkrantz Eckstut and Kuhn. At these firms she was involved in projects such as schools, museums, libraries and private residences. Earlier work experiences were in San Francisco, the South of France, Colorado and New York City. This early experience included seismic bridge upgrading, the restoration and renovation of a historic district, ski house design, historic mortar analysis and working in a material testing laboratory. Debra was also a Teaching Assistant for a Studio class at Columbia University. |
